The FS1501 is a 150 watt SSB radio telephone that utilizes state-of-the-art technology in marine communications. The FS1501 is remarkably compact, since it is housed in a rugged diecast aluminum chassis with integral heatsinks.

The high-performance PLL synthesizer is computer controlled to generate all frequencies between 1.6 - 23 mHz, in 10 Hz high-stability steps. All 192 ITU marine channels are stored in memory, and the emergency frequency 2182 kHz is installed and accessed through the keyboard. The user may program up to 128 simplex or 64 duplex frequencies of choice into non-volatile memory. Frequency or channel selection is remarkably easy, since either the front panel rotary tuning knob or the numerical keyboard can be used. The large, clear backlit LCD display shows complete operational status, including receive signal strength and transmitter antenna current. A tw-tone emergancy alarm generator is standard equipment. Also included as standard is an impulse noise blanker and a squelch to cut down on annoying noise. An optional VOX unit allows hands-free "Voice Operation" where just speaking into the microphone puts the FS1501 into transmit automatically. The automatic antenna coupler supplied as standard matches a whip or wire antenna between 6 to 15 meters long, typically within less than half a second on channels that have been tuned before, within two seconds on new channels.
